Freixanet Wellness has recently developed the wellness areas of two landmark establishments in the hotel sector; firstly, because they are iconic hotels; and secondly, because they are pioneering buildings in LEED® certification.
Hostal Empúries (L'Escala, Girona) is characterized by its approach to ecological responsibility. In other words, it cares for the World Heritage Site on which it is located, seeking to offer the best experience for all its guests and leave the best legacy for future generations.
To properly plan and develop its actions, it uses two of the most efficient tools currently guaranteeing sustainability: a) LEED® sustainable architecture certification, which aims to transform the building into an agent of environmental regeneration, preventing erosion, improving water quality, and increasing biodiversity for the benefit of the entire community; and b) the "CradletoCradle" or "C2C" principle (from cradle to cradle), which advocates the use of materials that are not only sustainable, but whose useful life goes beyond the use for which they were initially intended to be reused in future processes, converting them at the end of their cycle into new raw material.
It's worth noting that Hostal Empúries is the first hotel in Europe with LEED® GOLD certification.
Meanwhile, the Avenida Sofía Hotel & Spa (Sitges, Barcelona) is set to open its doors soon. It is a four-star establishment with 77 Superior rooms (12 of which will be Deluxe) and a suite located on the top floor.
The hotel has set a very clear goal: to become one of the first hotels in the world and the only one in Europe to have the LEED® PLATINUM environmental certification. LEED is a certification system for sustainable buildings, and is based on variables such as incorporating aspects related to energy efficiency, the use of alternative energy sources, improved indoor air quality, water efficiency, and material selection into the project.
Freixanet Wellness developed spas for these establishments, which feature the firm's most advanced and well-designed equipment. But in both cases, these facilities were also adapted to the client's requirements to maximize their sustainability performance.
